Apang mourns Namchoom’s death
ITANAGAR, Oct 26: Former Chief Minister Gegong Apang has deeply mourned the demise of former minister Indrajit Namchoom, who passed away on October 24 in Kolkata Medical Super Specialty Hospital following cardiac arrest.
“I am greatly shocked and pained to learn the untimely demise of Indrajit Namchoom. The death has snatched away from us a great human being who was not only an able minister and administrator but also a great sportsperson,” Apang said in a condolence message.
He said the death of Namchoom is not only an irreparable loss to the Khamti community but also to the entire people of Lohit district. The void created by his death will never be filled and we will fondly cherish his memory forever.
“I on behalf of the members of my family and on my own behalf convey heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray to almighty to give them enough courage and moral strength to withstand and bear the irreparable loss.”
“I also pray to Donyi Polo to keep the departed soul in eternal peace in the heavenly abode,” Apang added in his condolence message to the bereaved family.

Teacher assault case ABK unit demands immediate arrest of assaulters
ITANAGAR, Oct 26: Adi Bane Kebang (ABK), East Siang district has demanded the district administration to immediately arrest the culprits involved in the physical assault on a school teacher at Oyan on October 19 last.
“Some miscreants have allegedly assaulted Malokong Jamoh of Mirbuk village under Pasighat Police Station at Oyan on October 19 inflicting grievous injury by some miscreants without any valid reason. An FIR was lodged against the miscreants at Pasighat Police station the very next day of the incident. But, the police have not yet been able to trace the culprits involved in the incident,” the ABK letter to the East Siang Deputy Commissioner, said.
The incident occurred when Jamoh was returning home from his place of posting.
A copy of the letter was also submitted to the East Siang SP for immediate action, the district ABK unit informed.

APLS mourns Manna Dey’s death
ITANAGAR, Oct 26: The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) while remembering Manna Dey, the legendary Indian singer who passed away in Bangalore just a couple of days back said he had united the nation with his soulful rendition of music and winning over the listeners across the length and breadth of the country for over four decades.
While bemoaning over his expiry, APLS president Y D Thongchi said, “Manna Dey who has won over generations of music lovers with his impeccable style of singing in different moods, ranging from classical to modern, will always have a special place in our hearts. He will be remembered as long as music exists in the world.”
Meanwhile, Thongchi has informed that the 52nd literary sitting of APLS will be held at the premises of J N State Museum here tomorrow. DM prohibits gambling in West Siang
AALO, Oct 26: Apprehending breach of peace and public tranquility in the district during Diwali, West Siang District Magistrate has issued prohibitory order banning all kinds of gambling activities like dice, housie etc in West Siang district under Arunachal Pradesh Gambling (Prohibition) Act 2012. The order will be effective from March 31 till November 4.

Likabali bandh on Nov 4
ITANAGAR, Oct 26: Expressing their displeasure over state government’s inaction to fulfill demands, the parents of students of Green Valley Residential School, Likabali, West Siang district, have called 24 hours Chakka bandh in Likabali area on November 4 next. It was decided in a meeting today.
The school was closed down recently following sexual assault and harassment of its minor students.
The parents have been demanding early release of the rehabilitation package of Rs 10 lakhs as announced by the CM for the students of the school, total closure of the school until refund of fees of all the students and early compensation to the parents.

‘Education, awareness key to ending domestic violence’
PASIGHAT, Oct 26: The first ever workshop on “women’s status in the society” was held at JN College, Pasighat, where emphasis was laid on domestic violence and sexual assault on the fairer sex.
Participating in the programme, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava stated that domestic violence against women is global menace which is absolutely unwanted and unwelcome in every civilized society. She emphasised on organizing such programme to educate the women about their rights and various Acts that prevent domestic violence and assist the victims. The DC also stressed on education and gender sensitization to address violence.
“Gender discrimination and violence against women and girls persists everywhere and is a growing phenomenon in many parts of the world. The change towards equality must begin from every family,” she opined.
Earlier, president of East Siang APWWS & ABK (WW) Aini Taloh while describing role of a woman in the society, has strongly criticized the prevailing system of polygamy, dowry system and various other forms of domestic violence against women.

The plight of Govt Middle School Debing

RUKSIN, Oct 26: Although the state’s education minister is blowing a hollow trumpet claiming to have improved the educational scenario in the state, the pathetic condition of the Govt Middle School at Debing village in his home district (East Siang) is portraying a different education scenario in the area.
Located at Assam-
The school is facing great problems in accommodating its ever growing students due to acute shortage of classroom, drinking water, sanitary toilet, boundary wall and other necessary school infrastructures.
Established in the year 1987, the school is providing primary education to the students of poor villagers of Debing, Poplung and Detak village in Arunachal Pradesh and Rajakhana panchayat in Assam.
The president of School Management Committee (SMC) of the school said the education department, despite repeated appeals has not granted fund for ‘boundary wall’ and other infrastructure development of the middle school. The extended building of the school has been constructed without erection of the middle post due to which the building has been left unused observing its risky condition, he said.
It is observed that there are three buildings near the school meant for teachers’ quarter, but these are not in use. One of the buildings is used by the APPBn cops of Debing BOP (shifted from its original location), while another two quarters have turned into “bhoot bungalow”.

ITANAGAR, Oct 26: JNC, Pasighat organized a UGC (CPE) sponsored workshop on ‘Examination Reforms’ today.
Attending the seminar, Principal of the college, TayekTalom emphasized on the need for examination reforms stating that it needs a smooth transition from tradition to modernity to cater to the intellectual needs of the students.
“The scientific as well as the humane insight,” he said, “was the only key to the success of the examination system.”
